Surgeons are
doctors who have completed at least five years of highly specialized training after
medical school to gain the skills necessary to be called "surgeon."
Evidence of a surgeon's ability is certification by the American Board of Surgery and
accreditation by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Only those who have completed
an approved residency and have passed rigorous examinations covering general surgical
topics receive certification. The letters F.A.C.S. (Fellow, American College of
Surgeons) after the name of a surgeon indicate his or her commitment to excellence and
ethical conduct. The national standards of the college were established in order to ensure
that the best possible care is rendered to each and every patient. Before conferring the
title of fellow, the college thoroughly evaluates that surgeon's knowledge and skills.
The surgeons at Advanced Surgical Associates strive to maintain the highest standards
of care and compassion, treating people, not cases or diseases.
