Dr. Rula came to Arizona from Vicksburg, Mississippi, after graduating from the University of Mississippi. He completed his residency in General Surgery in The Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency, based at Good Samaritan Medical Center, and has practiced in the East Valley since 1989. Dr. Rula enjoys a broad-based interest in General Surgery, including all types of breast surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and hernia repairs. He also has specific training and expertise advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques for reflux disease, adrenalectomy, and splenectomy.

Dr. Rula is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the Phoenix Surgical Society. He is presently Chairman of the Depatment of Surgery at Desert Samaritan Medical Center

When Dr. Rula is not caring for the surgical patient, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He also enjoys mountain biking and hiking,  and is an ASU Sun Devil fan.
