Breast Cancer Screening and Testing

Screening for breast cancer can be done with a mammogram (x-ray of the breast).  If an abnormality is detected on a mammogram, then further imaging may need to be done with an ultrasound or MRI.

If something suspicious is found, a biopsy will be needed to make a definitive diagnosis.

Hormone receptor tests can determine whether the cancer is hormone-based and is likely to respond to hormone therapy treatment after surgery.

Genetic Testing can also be done to detect BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, which increase the risk of developing cancer.
